    Forres European Bagpipe Championships 2017

Let me start by saying I know nothing about bagpipes; I saw reference to this event on fsb.org.uk and thought, “well why not!” The flight from Gatwick to Inverness is nominally an hour and a half.
We left Gatwick Friday mid-day and stayed on in Inverness till Monday afternoon.
On Saturday, the competition started at 09.00 and went through to 17:00. I loved every windswept and rain-showered minute we were there. Still know nothing about bagpipes but definitely looking to learn more, for example why when playing their set pieces, do the bands form a circle with their backs to the audience?

Inverness is beautiful, the locals are charming and the bus service is reliable and a pleasure to use, and a great way to see all that stunning scenery.

If you’re going to Inverness any time soon check out:

ASPENDOS- Mediterranean Turkish Restaurant, 26 Queensgate, Inverness IV1 1DJ
    Really good food.

Encore Une Fois – European Restaurant with live music, 5-9 Young Street IV3 5BL
Nice spacious good-food restaurant to spend the evening. With live music, so we got to hear some of our ancient favourites.

The Bakery – Tiny bakery shop, 72 Tomnahurich St, Inverness IV3 5DT
Great croissants, pain aux raisins and wholemeal scones.

    Definitely going again next year.
